Learn more about the holiday with those who know it best.

What is National Coffee Day?

National Coffee Day was originally created in 2005 by the NCA or National Coffee Association. Built to honor the best and richest brews, September 29th was officially declared to be the day of celebration.

While the holiday remains inside the United States, most local coffee shops carry both international and locally-made roasts for a full flavor spectrum.

Note: Outside of the U.S. there’s an international coffee day, which is celebrated in October. Double up on your coffee admiration by celebrating twice a year.

When people hear the word “coffee,” they think of energy, warmth, and for the real coffee enthusiasts, they dream about art. While all of these can be associated with a freshly brewed cup of coffee, they’re not the reason the holiday was created.

In the United States, coffee is an embedded piece of our wake-up routine. Turn off your alarm, get out of bed, and head right to the kitchen for your morning pick-me-up. This influence remains so heavily ingrained in workplace culture that the holiday was established to remind people that work was to be done, and therefore, coffee was to be had.

Mystic Monk Coffee relishes in the idea that coffee should be a leisure, not a chore. Ahead of this year’s NCD (National Coffee Day), choose a brew that’ll excite, inspire, and most importantly, taste impeccably good.

Coffee Culture: A Brief History

Person preparing a shot of espresso by using a tamper.

Beneath the fancy espresso machines and the specialized beans is the longing for culture. Cafés were invented to connect people, whether strangers or friends, by the cup. Cities like Paris and Milan were the first to introduce the idea of a coffee space, later called a coffee house.

As early as the 17th century, people were filing into quaint corner coffee shops to meet, chat, and sip on inspired brews made by locals. Where communities lacked togetherness, coffee filled that hole.

Now, modern coffeehouses continue to be places where like-minded individuals go to relax, learn more about specialized coffee, socialize, or study. No matter the goal, coffee continues to be a source of warmth and comfort for those who seek it out.

Mystic Monk Coffee was born from the same few ideals: community, a sense of tradition, and high-quality beans. With our mountain-roasted flavored, seasonal, and everyday coffee blends, you can recreate the café experience right at home.

At Work

Sometimes you just can’t get out of the office. Even when you’d rather be at home pulling a fresh shot of our Espresso Classico. Bring a bag to work and share the strong, high-quality taste of the caramel and dark chocolate flavor notes.

For another ground, espresso-ready blend that packs a little extra caffeine, try our Super Monk Blend Named after those monks who seem to be everywhere at once, this blend combines the classic feel of a dark roast with the agility to brew as a drip coffee.

Note: Most Mystic Monk Coffee blends can be made as both an espresso and a drip.

At Home

Want to brew your favorite blend at home in honor of National Coffee Day? We’ve got you covered.

A few go-to blends that you can whip up at home, machine or not, include our Mystic Monk Breakfast Blend, Paradiso Blend, and Cowboy Blend (a customer favorite). If you’re unsure which flavor profile you would like, consider the strength.

Light blends make for an easy at-home brewing experience, as they’re strong enough to give you the classic coffee experience without the tang that a dark or espresso blend might yield.

Medium blends, offered in popular roasts such as the Colombian or the Rwanda Dukundakawa Ruli, have hints of fruit in them for a well-balanced sip.

Go through a few other fan favorites to choose your holiday-worthy blend.

With Friends

Coffee is better enjoyed with company. Invite a few friends over to relish in the day, or enjoy some time outside while sipping a freshly made coffee beverage.

Indoors, by the couch, or hanging around the kitchen, there’s always room for a roast. Consider a flavored or seasonal blend for your gathering. Gourmand coffees such as our best-selling Dark Chocolate Toffee, Caramel Flavored Blend, or Hazelnut Coffee bring the flavor and warmth to any room they’re in.

If you’re looking for an ethically sourced, high-quality blend to share with those you love most, choose Mystic Monk Coffee. We blend our vision for a stronger, coffee-rich community into every bean we sell, and your holiday-ready blend is no exception.
